How to Set Up Your Toniebox | Step-by-Step Guide
Setting up your Toniebox is quick and easy. Follow this guide to get your child's screen-free audio player ready in under 5 minutes.
Note: This guide covers the original Toniebox. If you have the new Toniebox 2 (released August 2025), it features USB-C charging, an LED ring, sleep timer, and Tonieplay interactive features, but the basic setup process remains the same.
What You'll Need
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Your Toniebox audio player
- The Toniebox charging station
- A WiFi network (2.4 GHz)
- A smartphone or computer with internet access
- At least one Tonie figure
Step 1: Charge Your Toniebox
Place your Toniebox on the charging station and let it charge for at least 3 hours before first use. The LED on the front will glow when charging.
Tip: A full charge provides up to 7 hours of playback time.
Step 2: Create Your mytonies Account
- Visit my.tonies.com on your phone or computer
- Click "Sign Up" and enter your email address
- Create a password and accept the terms
- Verify your email address by clicking the link sent to your inbox
Your mytonies account is where you'll manage your Tonieboxes, Creative-Tonies, and family settings.
Step 3: Connect to WiFi
- Turn on your Toniebox by pinching both ears simultaneously for 3 seconds
- The LED will flash blue, indicating it's ready for setup
- Pinch both ears again until you hear an audio cue
- Visit my.tonies.com/setup on your device
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Toniebox to WiFi
- Select your WiFi network and enter the password
- Wait for the Toniebox to confirm connection (it will play a sound)
Troubleshooting: If your Toniebox doesn't connect, make sure you're using a 2.4 GHz WiFi network, not 5 GHz.
Step 4: Link Your Toniebox to Your Account
- Once connected to WiFi, your Toniebox will display a unique ID
- Enter this ID on the mytonies setup page
- Give your Toniebox a name (like "Living Room" or "Emma's Box")
- Assign it to a household member
Step 5: Place Your First Tonie
- Take any Tonie figure out of its packaging
- Place it on top of your Toniebox
- Wait a few seconds while the content downloads
- The audio will start playing automatically
First-time download: Each Tonie figure downloads its content the first time you place it on the box. This typically takes 30-60 seconds, though some Tonies with longer content may take up to 2 minutes.
Step 6: Learn the Basic Controls
- Pause/Play: Tap the top of the Toniebox
- Volume Up: Pinch the larger ear
- Volume Down: Pinch the smaller ear
- Skip Forward: Tilt the Toniebox forward
- Skip Backward: Tilt the Toniebox backward
- Turn Off: Remove the Tonie figure and leave idle for 10 minutes (or pinch both ears for 5 seconds)
